I visited Lake Erie’s preeminent amusement park, Cedar Point<\/a>, five times this summer. I am using the thousands of photos that I took from these visits as reference material for my new series–Amusement Parks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have 10 finished designs and I’ve started the drawings on several canvases. Yesterday, I finished the drawing for the first painting in the series, Winner!<\/em>, which I’m showing here. The drawing is simply lead on canvas. I will start the actual painting later today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I take pains with the drawings and cartoons for the same reasons that artists in the past did, namely, to solve the design puzzles before taking-up the brush. This way, once I start painting, I can concentrate solely on the painting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
