{"id":1152,"date":"2013-02-17T19:34:07","date_gmt":"2013-02-18T00:34:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/?p=1152"},"modified":"2013-02-17T19:36:04","modified_gmt":"2013-02-18T00:36:04","slug":"in-the-studio-2172013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/2013\/02\/in-the-studio-2172013\/","title":{"rendered":"In the Studio 2\/17\/2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A productive day with a lot of good sunlight.&nbsp; I finished two self-portraits this morning (<a title=\"Watercolors\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/gallery\/watercolors\/self-brown.jpg\">a gouache <\/a>and another <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/gallery\/drawings-and-prints\/self-blue_0.jpg\">pastel-gouache<\/a>), almost finished the drawing for a new still life (oil), then worked on the oils in the accompanying photo this afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Why so many self-portraits lately? It&rsquo;s not because I&rsquo;ve developed a new found self-fascination&ndash;hell no! It&rsquo;s because I&rsquo;ll sit still for as long as I need.&nbsp; I plan on hiring some Cleveland area models to relieve the monotony.<\/p>\n<div class=\"internal-linking-related-contents\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/2012\/10\/cleveland-museum-of-art\/\" class=\"template-2\"><span class=\"cta\">Read more<\/span><span class=\"postTitle\">Cleveland Museum of Art Opens Renovations<\/span><\/a><\/div><p>The pastel-gouache was almost lost, by the way.&nbsp; It started life as a gouache on canvas board, then I worked it up with pastels.&nbsp; After finishing it, I deiced to fix it with spray varnish. All pastels and charcoals need this, of course, and I also do it to some gouache pieces. I used a brand new to me by Utrecht.&nbsp; Mistake!&nbsp; The damar-based &ldquo;retouch&rdquo; varnish obliterated the soft pastel work&ndash;crap.&nbsp; So I worked it up again but used my standard <a href=\"http:\/\/www.krylon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Krylon<\/a> varnish this time which worked fine.&nbsp; The&nbsp;Utrecht is only fit for small oils and gouaches.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1151\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1151\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/index.php\/2013\/02\/in-the-studio-2172013\/studio_2_17\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1151\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1151\" alt=\"In the studio 2\/17\/2013\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/studio_2_17.jpg?resize=600%2C441\" width=\"600\" height=\"441\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/studio_2_17.jpg?w=600&amp;ssl=1 600w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/studio_2_17.jpg?resize=300%2C220&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1151\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">In the studio 2\/17\/2013<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The painting in the foreground is &ldquo;Jane Hudson and Her Father,&rdquo; which&ndash;knock on wood&ndash;will be done soon.
