This means that the museum was filled with the type of people I try to avoid: Kamala-supporting, beret-wearing Boomers.

The second surprise was discovering that the recently opened Manet-Morisot exhibition is a magnet for the Boomers I already mentioned. They love ole’ Berthe. I held my nose and swam through the overcrowded and warm exhibit rooms. There were two Manets that were new to me and call for another visit (not on a Tuesday!). Otherwise, the exhibit was swamped with drab paintings by the overrated Morisot.

The worst surprise was learning that my favorite among the museum’s paintings was not on exhibit. It was the first time during the 14 years that I’ve been visiting the museum that I couldn’t study David’s Cupid and Psyche. Apparently, the painting isn’t on loan as I first thought, but has been put into storage! What? What? This is horrible news. This changes how I feel about the museum.

Anyway, as usual, when I visit the museum, I start with the excellent Asian collection, where I discovered this small print.
