{"id":30,"date":"2012-10-15T12:38:03","date_gmt":"2012-10-15T16:38:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/?p=30"},"modified":"2012-10-18T12:30:30","modified_gmt":"2012-10-18T16:30:30","slug":"cleveland-museum-of-art","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/2012\/10\/cleveland-museum-of-art\/","title":{"rendered":"Cleveland Museum of Art Opens Renovations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;re like me, art is food&#8211;it&#8217;s one of life&#8217;s essentials. \u00a0I&#8217;ve a lifelong habit of haunting art museums. \u00a0My excitement is always high at the\u00a0prospect\u00a0of a visit, and no matter how often I visit a particular museum my enthusiasm never flags, nor is my sense of\u00a0adventure\u00a0and discovery ever satiated.<\/p>\n<p>I am in one of those lucky periods during which I have ready access to a world-class museum. My weekly visits to the <a title=\"Cleveland Museum of Art\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clevelandart.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cleveland Museum of Art<\/a> over the past year have led me to become intimately familiar with this wonderful museum. The museum&#8217;s collection is extensive and chockablock with great works.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the museum is in a never-ending renovation cycle during\u00a0which vast areas of the museum are inaccessible and visitors must wind through a confusing maze of tunnels surrounded by unwelcome construction-site noise.<\/p>\n<p>The museum&#8217;s current $350 million renovation began in 2005! \u00a0And they aren&#8217;t done! \u00a0The good news is that important parts of the renovations ARE finished and finally opened to the public. \u00a0The new atrium, pictured here, is impressive. \u00a0Visitor access is now\u00a0straightforward, and one can began see the outlines of the finished project. \u00a0It appears that when finished the project will be a major upgrade to an already word-class facility. \u00a0But I&#8217;ll wait until they&#8217;re finished before rendering judgement.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/index.php\/2012\/10\/cleveland-museum-of-art\/img_0261\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-40\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-40\" title=\"Cleveland Museum of Art Atrium\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/IMG_0261.jpg?resize=300%2C214\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/IMG_0261.jpg?resize=300%2C214&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/IMG_0261.jpg?w=552&amp;ssl=1 552w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One continuing annoyance is that the museum&#8217;s excellent\u00a0Asian\u00a0collections remain inaccessible. \u00a0It&#8217;s a shame that the museum&#8217;s wonderful Asian collections, some consider them the best in the entire country, remain inaccessible for yet another year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;re like me, art is food&#8211;it&#8217;s one of life&#8217;s essentials. \u00a0I&#8217;ve a lifelong habit of haunting art museums. \u00a0My excitement is always high at the\u00a0prospect\u00a0of a visit, and no matter how often I visit a particular museum my enthusiasm never flags, nor is my sense of\u00a0adventure\u00a0and discovery ever satiated.
