I finally got this small painting–21″ x 30″–to a good place. This morning’s session was the 9th.<\/p>\n

I wanted to do a full figure in a small format, and I wanted to paint green. Are those enough reasons to make a painting?<\/p>\n

I titled it Black River<\/em> because the subject (my daughter, Jane) is proudly holding her softball jersey with ‘Black River’ emblazoned across it. I carefully drew the fancy logo and intended to paint it, but, in the end, that felt wrong and I left it out.<\/p>\n

I struggled with this painting because the ground, although carefully applied, went bad. it was too slick.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
