Main Street #2<\/em> is on the old easel in front of some unfinished paintings. One of the challenges (and pleasures) of Main Street #2 is the large number of figures in the space–14. Although the painting is largish, 40″ x 56,” the figures range from small scale to very small scale. Originally it had even more figures! I edited them out and also removed other incidentals. For example, there was another pole and a lot of bric-a-brac on the street in the foreground.<\/p>\n

The pole on the left of the photo (outside the painting) is my homemade mahlstick<\/a>–very useful for large paintings.<\/p>\n

The background painting on the right is The News<\/em> which I talked about last week<\/a>. In The News<\/em> the figures are close to life size. I enjoy working on differently-scaled figures.
