I build paintings slowly. I spend a considerable amount of time on the drawing before touching a brush. Once painting starts, I try to work as efficiently as possible. It doesn’t always work out–so much can go awry. But the point of so much preparation is go get a painting to the finishing stage where it’s just plain fun. Hand and mind work as one and problems, if they arise, are easily solved. Dinner in Trenton<\/em> is almost at the finishing stage. A little more spade work here and there I’ll light the rocket! I’m starting to like it a little bit<\/p>\n

This is an odd photo, no? The recently finished Garth and Daryl Talking<\/em> is at an odd angle; everything is at an odd angle–the paintings and the palette too.<\/p>\n

While painting this morning I carelessly knocked over the medium cup and spilled medium over my bare leg. They day is so pleasant I’m wearing shorts. My medium has a lot of stuff you do not<\/em> want on your skin–lead-based siccatives for one.
