{"id":5499,"date":"2015-10-09T07:58:20","date_gmt":"2015-10-09T11:58:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/?p=5499"},"modified":"2015-11-26T23:10:44","modified_gmt":"2015-11-27T04:10:44","slug":"god-hates-renoir","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/2015\/10\/god-hates-renoir\/","title":{"rendered":"God Hates Renoir"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/arts-entertainment\/art\/news\/anti-renoir-protesters-picket-boston-art-gallery-over-aesthetic-terrorism-chanting-put-some-fingers-a6684846.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">I had to laugh when I read this article<\/a> in the Independent. &nbsp;The story is about the group calling themselves&nbsp;<strong>Renoir Sucks<\/strong>&nbsp;protesting in front of Boston&rsquo;s Museum of Fine Arts. <strong>Renoir Sucks&rsquo;<\/strong>&nbsp;main tenant is, well, that Renoir sucks. The group&nbsp;maintains that they are tired of the &lsquo;irredeemable treacle of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pierre-Auguste_Renoir\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pierre-Auguste Renoir<\/a> diluting the collection.&rsquo; They are calling for the resignation of the Museum&rsquo;s director for &lsquo;curatorial failing.&rsquo; They further maintain that the display of Renoir&rsquo;s work&nbsp;&ldquo;amounts to an act of aesthetic terrorism.&rsquo;&nbsp;One Renoir Sucks member declaimed&nbsp;that he resents being &lsquo;exposed to Renoir&rsquo;s deformed pink fuzzy women and scary looking babies.&rsquo;<\/p>\n<p>One group member carried a placard exclaiming <em>God Hates Renoir!<\/em><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_912\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-912\" style=\"width: 463px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/2013\/01\/book-thief\/diana\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-912\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-912\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/diana.jpg?resize=463%2C698\" alt=\"Diana the Huntress by Renoir\" width=\"463\" height=\"698\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-912\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Diana the Huntress by Renoir<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"internal-linking-related-contents\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/2012\/10\/cleveland-museum-of-art\/\" class=\"template-2\"><span class=\"cta\">Read more<\/span><span class=\"postTitle\">Cleveland Museum of Art Opens Renovations<\/span><\/a><\/div><p>Poor Renoir. &nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/2013\/01\/book-thief\/\">&nbsp;Renoir was a&nbsp;childhood&nbsp;favorite who&nbsp;inspired me to be an artist<\/a>. He created many&nbsp;wonderful paintings, but I have to admit they have point. Cleveland has a few of his masterpieces but they have an inordinate number of later works that I pass by without a glance.<\/p>\n<p>Sometime during mid-life Renoir&nbsp;questioned his earlier Impressionist work. His late output is filled with classical borrowings&nbsp;disfigured with murky&nbsp;glazes.
