Aboard the Betty Jane<\/em> is another of the 48″ x 60″ canvases I recently wrote about<\/a>.  This painting is based on some photos taken during a fishing trip abroad my boat.  The Betty Jane<\/em> is still in dry dock; next week we start preparing her for the season.  We have to scrape the bottom and apply ablative paint.  The last time we did this was three years ago.  Ablative paint keeps mollusks and such-like off the hull.  It’s early in Lake Erie’s season and nearly all boats are still dry-docked.<\/p>\n

After I took this photo, I put a neutral-tone ground on the white canvas behind Aboard the Betty Jane<\/em>.  The toned ground is the last stage before I start painting.  The ground should be dry in a week, at which point I’ll lightly sand it and then start drawing.<\/p>\n

I spent part of the past week taking photos in and around our small town.  I’m gathering photos for a new series of paintings.  I’m also looking forward to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this summer.  What an opportunity for photography, eh!<\/p>\n
