I still have my copy of <em>Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man<\/em> that I acquired&nbsp;in high school.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Goethe%27s_Faust\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Faust<\/strong> by Goethe<\/a>. &nbsp;Short audio book, only 5 hours.<\/p>\n<div class=\"internal-linking-related-contents\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/2012\/10\/stephen-pentak-at-bonfoey\/\" class=\"template-2\"><span class=\"cta\">Read more<\/span><span class=\"postTitle\">Stephen Pentak at Bonfoey<\/span><\/a><\/div><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Havocs-Sword-Lewrie-Naval-Adventure\/dp\/0312315481\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1475975004&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=Havoc%27s+Sword\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Havoc&rsquo;s Sword<\/strong><\/a> by Dewey Lambdin. &nbsp;Part of a&nbsp;series about the 18th-century&nbsp;British&nbsp;navy that follows the exploits of the fictional Alan Lewrie. &nbsp;This volume is the series worst. &nbsp;It&rsquo;s so poor that I might skip the remaining half-dozen books in the series. &nbsp;Up to now, I&rsquo;ve really enjoyed the scamp&rsquo;s adventures. &nbsp;Good naval yarns.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Powder-Monkey-Fox-Adam-Hardy\/dp\/1523487453\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1475975039&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=Fox+by+Adam+Hardy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Fox<\/strong> by Adam Hardy<\/a>. &nbsp;Another&nbsp;18th-century&nbsp;British&nbsp;navy series. &nbsp;I love the 14-volume series. &nbsp;The author is dead and I am sad the series is left incomplete. &nbsp;Each volume is a novella of 120-130 pages. &nbsp;This series hits my sweet spot for naval adventure.<\/p>\n<div class=\"internal-linking-related-contents\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/2012\/10\/cleveland-museum-of-art-staff-exhibition\/\" class=\"template-2\"><span class=\"cta\">Read more<\/span><span class=\"postTitle\">Cleveland Museum of Art Staff Exhibition<\/span><\/a><\/div><p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Master_and_Commander\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Master and Commander<\/strong><\/a> by Patrick O&rsquo;Brian. &nbsp;Yet another&nbsp;18th-century&nbsp;British&nbsp;navy series. &nbsp;I read through the entire 20 volume series 10 years ago but I am taking it up again now that I&rsquo;ve finished the Fox series. The movie of the same name is based on the series.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Hard-as-Nails-Dan-Simmons-ebook\/dp\/B00QQQL7MC\/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1475975122&amp;sr=1-2&amp;keywords=Hard+as+Nails\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Hard as Nails<\/strong><\/a> by Dan Simmons. &nbsp;I read the three volumes in this PI noir series. &nbsp;Simmons has written in several genres including sci-fi, horror, and mystery. &nbsp;The more I read of Simmons, the less I like him.<\/p>\n<div class=\"internal-linking-related-contents\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/2012\/10\/in-the-studio-102812\/\" class=\"template-2\"><span class=\"cta\">Read more<\/span><span class=\"postTitle\">In the Studio&mdash;10\/28\/12<\/span><\/a><\/div><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Swan-Knights-Son-Squire-Cobweb-ebook\/dp\/B01L43JG88\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1475975149&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=Swan+Knight%27s+Son\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Swan Knight&rsquo;s Son<\/strong><\/a> by John C. Wright. &nbsp;I am not a big fan of fantasy but I dip my toe in once in awhile. &nbsp;This well-written book left me cold and I will not pursue this series any further.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Black-Sword-Saga-Forgotten-Warrior-ebook\/dp\/B016QP1PJW\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1475975174&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=Son+of+the+Black+Sword\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Son of the Black Sword<\/strong><\/a> by Larry Correia. &nbsp;I did enjoy this fantasy novel and might read another in the series.<\/p>\n<div class=\"internal-linking-related-contents\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/2012\/10\/hurricane-sandy\/\" class=\"template-2\"><span class=\"cta\">Read more<\/span><span class=\"postTitle\">Hurricane Sandy<\/span><\/a><\/div><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Darknet-Matthew-Mather-ebook\/dp\/B00R52OLSI\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1475975205&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=Darknet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Darknet<\/strong><\/a> by Matthew Mather. &nbsp;Blah story ripped from today&rsquo;s headlines.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Twin-Sombreros-Western-Zane-Grey-ebook\/dp\/B0140EF99I\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1475975228&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=Twin+Sombreros\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Twin Sombreros<\/strong><\/a> by Zane Grey. &nbsp;I am not a fan of westerns nor did I read Grey when I was young but I enjoyed this &lsquo;gunslinger romance.&rsquo;<\/p>\n<div class=\"internal-linking-related-contents\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/2012\/11\/thumbs-up-thumbs-down\/\" class=\"template-2\"><span class=\"cta\">Read more<\/span><span class=\"postTitle\">Thumbs-up: van Ruisdael; Thumbs-down: Renoir<\/span><\/a><\/div><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Darkship-Thieves-Sarah-Hoyt-ebook\/dp\/B00APA4S0S\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1475975252&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=Darkship+Thieves\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Darkship Thieves<\/strong><\/a> by Sarah Hoyt. &nbsp;Another fantasy novel that left me cold.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Missionaries-Owen-Stanley-ebook\/dp\/B01HJ5P53A\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1475975274&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=The+Missionaries\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Missionaries<\/strong><\/a> by Owen Stanley. &nbsp;Black humor; recommended.<\/p>\n<h3>Non&nbsp;fiction<\/h3>\n<div class=\"internal-linking-related-contents\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/2012\/11\/robert-smith\/\" class=\"template-2\"><span class=\"cta\">Read more<\/span><span class=\"postTitle\">Robert Smith<\/span><\/a><\/div><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Fourth-Political-Theory-Alexander-Dugin-ebook\/dp\/B009VLIAZQ\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1475975337&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=The+Fourth+Political+Theory\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Fourth Political Theory<\/strong><\/a> by Alexander Dugin. &nbsp;Post post-modern, post history analysis of the contemporary geopolitical situation. &nbsp;The author is Russian.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Blockchain-Revolution-Technology-Changing-Business\/dp\/1101980133\/ref=sr_1_sc_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1475975511&amp;sr=1-1-spell&amp;keywords=Bockchain+Revolution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Bockchain&nbsp;Revolution<\/strong><\/a> by Don Tapscott. &nbsp;I agree with the author that blockchain technology is the next BIG THING.<\/p>\n<div class=\"internal-linking-related-contents\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/2012\/11\/dayton-art-institute-fail\/\" class=\"template-2\"><span class=\"cta\">Read more<\/span><span class=\"postTitle\">Dayton Art Institute&mdash;Fail<\/span><\/a><\/div><p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Clash_of_Civilizations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Clash of Civilizations<\/strong><\/a> by Samuel P. Huntington. &nbsp;This book is getting a lot of buzz because 20 years ago the author posited that cultural clashes would define the post-cold-war world. &nbsp;So far, it&rsquo;s very good and lives up to the hype.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Sleepwalkers-How-Europe-Went-1914\/dp\/B008B1BL4E\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1475975367&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=The+Sleepwalkers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Sleepwalkers<\/strong><\/a> by Christopher Clark. &nbsp;A well-written analysis of origins of WWI. &nbsp;Highly recommended.<\/p>\n<div class=\"internal-linking-related-contents\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/2012\/11\/mary-cassatt-and-the-feminine-ideal-in-19th-century-paris\/\" class=\"template-2\"><span class=\"cta\">Read more<\/span><span class=\"postTitle\">Mary Cassatt and the Feminine Ideal in 19th-Century Paris<\/span><\/a><\/div><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Dark-Net-Inside-Digital-Underworld-ebook\/dp\/B00SED1I42\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1475975400&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=The+Dark+Net\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Dark Net<\/strong><\/a> by Jamie Bartlett. &nbsp;The author&nbsp;makes some good points but the book is filled with a lot of bilge. &nbsp;It reads like a term paper done under deadline.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Arm-Billion-Dollar-Mystery-Valuable-Commodity-ebook\/dp\/B011ISW5C8\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1475975424&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=The+Arm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Arm<\/strong><\/a> by Jeff Passan. &nbsp;The author follows several professional baseball pitchers as they try to heal their pitching arms and revive their careers.<\/p>\n<div class=\"internal-linking-related-contents\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/2012\/11\/george-mauersberger-at-bonfoey\/\" class=\"template-2\"><span class=\"cta\">Read more<\/span><span class=\"postTitle\">George Mauersberger at Bonfoey<\/span><\/a><\/div><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Leverage-Cheap-Money-Destroy-World-ebook\/dp\/B005SHETE8\/ref=sr_1_8?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1475975449&amp;sr=1-8&amp;keywords=Leverage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Leverage<\/strong><\/a> by Karl Denniger. &nbsp;The author claims that the debasement of the dollar will destroy the global economy. &nbsp;I haven&rsquo;t read enough yet to form a coherent opinion.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Poor-People-William-T-Vollmann-ebook\/dp\/B003V1WW9W\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1475975487&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=Poor+People\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Poor People<\/strong><\/a> by William Vollmann. &nbsp;The author traveled the world asking poor people why they are poor. &nbsp;A worthwhile read but disappointing and I was unable to finish the final 20%.<\/p>\n<div class=\"internal-linking-related-contents\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/2012\/11\/timothy-callaghan-life-slow-still\/\" class=\"template-2\"><span class=\"cta\">Read more<\/span><span class=\"postTitle\">Timothy Callaghan&mdash;Life Slow Still<\/span><\/a><\/div><p><a href=\"https:\/\/mitpress.mit.edu\/books\/monstrosity-christ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Monstrosity of Christ<\/strong><\/a> by Slavoj Zizek and John Millbank. &nbsp;A Christian theologian (Millbank) and militant atheist (Zizek) provide one of the more thought-provoking discussions about Christianity I&rsquo;ve ever read. &nbsp;Easily 5 stars.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Less-Than-Nothing-Dialectical-Materialism-ebook\/dp\/B007HXF2Q0\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1475975605&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=Less+than+Nothing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Less than Nothing<\/strong><\/a> by Slavoj Zizek. &nbsp;Zizek is a hell of a writer and is always interesting. &nbsp;In this book, he argues for a return or an embrace of Hegel&rsquo;s absolute idealism.<\/p>\n<div class=\"internal-linking-related-contents\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/2012\/12\/mother-nursing-infant\/\" class=\"template-2\"><span class=\"cta\">Read more<\/span><span class=\"postTitle\">Painting: Mother Nursing Infant<\/span><\/a><\/div><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/War-End-World-MacArthur-Forgotten-ebook\/dp\/B00W2ZKJ16\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1475975637&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=War+at+the+End+of+the+World\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>War at the End of the World<\/strong><\/a> by James P.
