{"id":7282,"date":"2017-09-07T21:20:40","date_gmt":"2017-09-08T01:20:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/?p=7282"},"modified":"2017-09-07T21:20:40","modified_gmt":"2017-09-08T01:20:40","slug":"two-paintings-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/2017\/09\/two-paintings-today\/","title":{"rendered":"Two paintings today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I used to think speed is important in art making. &nbsp;Speed relates to spontaneity&ndash;some say&ndash;and spontaneity guarantees authenticity, if not creativity. &nbsp;While spontaneity is important in art making, it&rsquo;s not fundamental. &nbsp;Even if you insist that spontaneity is essential, you can&rsquo;t make the same claim for speed. &nbsp;Speed is simply irrelevant.<\/p>\n<p>Another important idea for me is &lsquo;paint what you see;&rsquo; &nbsp;to address the <em>present<\/em>. &nbsp;While this idea, like spontaneity, is not fundamental, it&rsquo;s fertile and orients one in the right direction. &nbsp;But confining oneself to the present is too limiting, if not impossible. &nbsp;Does the present exist? &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"internal-linking-related-contents\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/2012\/10\/cleveland-museum-of-art\/\" class=\"template-2\"><span class=\"cta\">Read more<\/span><span class=\"postTitle\">Cleveland Museum of Art Opens Renovations<\/span><\/a><\/div><p>While working on these two paintings today, I thought about a video I saw recently. The video followed an artist as she went about her normal routine.
