{"id":815,"date":"2013-01-15T11:57:49","date_gmt":"2013-01-15T16:57:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/?p=815"},"modified":"2013-11-05T17:50:50","modified_gmt":"2013-11-05T22:50:50","slug":"love-everything-about-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/2013\/01\/love-everything-about-it\/","title":{"rendered":"Love Everything About It"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I love everything about art making. &nbsp; This has always been the case for me, but when I was young I was more&nbsp;impatient. &nbsp;I also had an elevated view about the role of <em>artistes. <\/em>&nbsp;As a consequence, I was sometimes careless with my equipment. &nbsp;Brushes could remain brush-down in turpentine for days&ndash;horror!&ndash;until I got around to washing them. &nbsp;This was&nbsp;disastrous&nbsp;for many of them and shortened their useful life. &nbsp;As every dollar was&nbsp;precious&nbsp;to me then, I shake my fist in frustration at my younger self&ndash;grrr. &nbsp;Many of those ruins are still in my kit, standing in mute witness to craft&nbsp;malpractice.<\/p>\n<p>Today, I wash my brushes every evening without fail. &nbsp;Today, I <em>enjoy<\/em> this simple task and, by some magical mechanism, do not find it the least bit tedious.<\/p>\n<div class=\"internal-linking-related-contents\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/2012\/10\/in-the-studio-oct-14-2012\/\" class=\"template-2\"><span class=\"cta\">Read more<\/span><span class=\"postTitle\">In the Studio Oct. 14 2012<\/span><\/a><\/div><p>I wash every brush (I am talking about oil-paint brushes) 2-3 times in lukewarm water. &nbsp;First, I wash them with a bar soap, like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dickblick.com\/products\/the-masters-artists-hand-soap\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Masters<\/a>. &nbsp;Next, I use a linseed-based soap, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.richesonart.com\/pdfs\/mediums.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Richeson Jack&rsquo;s Linseed Soap<\/a>. &nbsp;This is an excellent soap and not too expensive. &nbsp;Finally, for the sables (most watercolor brushes), I wash them with the last of my&nbsp;precious&nbsp;Ugly Dog Soap. &nbsp;Ugly Dog Soap was made by <a href=\"http:\/\/studioproducts.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Studio Products<\/a>, which, sadly, &nbsp;no longer makes art supplies (the owner claims to have sold his line but has never provided information about the buyer). &nbsp;Ugly Dog Soap was the best soap I ever used. &nbsp;It was an excellent cleaner, and restored and conditioned the brushes as well.<\/p>\n<p>The demise of Studio Products touches a sore spot. &nbsp;I am anxious to avoid depending on a&nbsp;third-party for some critical product. &nbsp;This is why I mix my own mediums; I don&rsquo;t want to rely on a&nbsp;defunct&nbsp;supplier or one who changes their product.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I love everything about art making. &nbsp; This has always been the case for me, but when I was young I was more&nbsp;impatient. &nbsp;I also had an elevated view about the role of artistes. &nbsp;As a consequence, I was sometimes careless with my equipment. &nbsp;Brushes could remain brush-down in turpentine for days&ndash;horror!&ndash;until I got around [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":61,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":true,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","default_image_id":0,"font":"","enabled":false},"version":2}},"categories":[139,24,113,1],"tags":[109],"class_list":["post-815","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-bio","category-shop_talk","category-tips_tricks","category-uncategorized","tag-brush-soap"],"aioseo_notices":[],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"jetpack-related-posts":[{"id":4452,"url":"https:\/\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/2014\/12\/oil-brushes\/","url_meta":{"origin":815,"position":0},"title":"Oil brushes","author":"Tom Hudson","date":"December 11, 2014","format":false,"excerpt":"I have a lot of oil brushes, as can be seen in the accompanying photo.
