He closed before the turn of the century&ndash;well before, so I have no idea how old this Venice turpentine I found this morning is. I spent a lot of time in both places, mostly window shopping. Then, <g class=\"gr_ gr_5 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace\" id=\"5\" data-gr-id=\"5\">like<\/g> now, good paints and brushes were expensive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"internal-linking-related-contents\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thomasparkerhudson.com\/wordpress\/2012\/10\/in-the-studio-oct-14-2012\/\" class=\"template-2\"><span class=\"cta\">Read more<\/span><span class=\"postTitle\">In the Studio Oct. 14 2012<\/span><\/a><\/div><p>Pearl, on Canal, was larger by far but David Davis held his own by maintaining in-house brands like this Venice turpentine. David Davis moved around a lot and the last time I visited them there a chill in the air, almost paranoia. The impression I got was that customers were viewed with dull suspicion. Balsams should not be as thick as taffy. Syrupy is OK, but taffy?&ndash;no.  Anyway, I tried a little of it before throwing it away.
