I am always happy when I can show finished paintings. The painting in the upper-left is titled ‘Wayne in a Blue Cap.’ It’s of my father-in-law, Wayne Kaniper, who recently passed away. This painting is finished.
The painting in the lower left, ‘The Blue Bow,’ is of my daughter Jane. She was inordinately proud of her blue velvet dress with its big, blue bow. She thrust her chest outward which made the pose challenging. This is one painting that is not for sale. I am going to get a nice frame for it and keep it with me. This painting is also finished. The others on view here are not finished.
The painting in the upper-right, ‘Trenton State Hospital,’ is on a small canvas board, so it’s an oil sketch. The painting of Wayne was on a cheap commercial canvas and was intended as a sketch too. After Wayne’s death, I re-purposed it. Canvas board makes a fine surface when prepared properly; cheap stretched canvas is good for nothing but sketching.
