When I finish the design for a new painting, I’m often tempted to leave it as a large drawing. At 44″ x 56,” the new painting, Liberty Avenue, would be a large drawing. If I actually turned this painting into a drawing, I would most likely finish it with chalk instead of just pencil.
Art justly prizes freshness but some things can only be experienced by creating time-consuming works. While there are many ways to fail when attempting an ambitious piece, some experiences are only available to those to persevere. Discipline is literally good as gold.
I’ve completed the drawing, as you can see in this photo, and tomorrow I start painting.
