I finished the drawing for this painting which is the latest in my Amusement Park Series. I’ve pushed the drawing on the canvas farther than usual to clarify the complicated relationships among the 16 or so figures.
The drawing is lead pencil which allows more precision than charcoal. You might wonder why I spend so much time on a drawing that will be covered by oil paint. As I said, working through the details is useful, but I also plan to let the drawing show through some transparent paint passages. I like how it looks; it keeps the “hand” of the artist in view.
I don’t have a name for the 44 x 60-inch painting yet.
