I am into the overpainting phase with Parade. although the surface is still very matte. No part is exactly done.
Yesterday’s morning session went poorly. I couldn’t see. It happens. Sometimes when I take up a painting that I struggled with previously, the solution is obvious. How could I have missed it? When artists talk about training their eye, it’s literally true. In this sense art is like sport or exercise. The more you train, the easier it is.
Looking at nature and looking at paintings. I visit art museums nearly once a week. I study the paintings over and over; it’s never tedious or tiresome–it refreshes me.
When I’m not seeing, I can carefully and deliberately mix a color and it will be wrong. On the other hand, when I am seeing, I can randomly drag the brush across the palette and the resulting color will work perfectly.
