Turpentine diaries 8/6/17

The Delegate is 36″ x 48″.  It still has a way to go.  It’s another painting with an annoying surface.

I’ve written a lot recently about painting surfaces, I know.  I bought a large roll of canvas two years ago, which enables me to monitor how changes to the painting surface can affect performance.  All the recent canvasses have the same canvas and stretchers.  I’ve modified the other elements in order to find the best-performing materials and processes.

I’ve identified what works for me, but the ill-favored surfaces are still winding their way through my studio, including The Delegate.

What works for me?  I plan on writing about my findings sometime soon, but one important component is the preparation of the final layer–the ground.  Using a scrapper makes an immense difference.
