I finished the underpainting today for Portrait of a Man Wearing Sunglasses, my second session with the painting. The painting is 32″ x 48.” Simple composition.

Unlike last week’s Fork, I transferred the design to the canvas with a cartoon. For Fork, because it’s so large, I drew directly on the canvas then inked over the pencil drawing.
The painting has a ways to go, of course. Someone asked me if I ever feel uncomfortable displaying unfinished work. Short answer–nope! I realize that a lot of people assume everything I post is finished. I find studying the unfinished work of others rewarding. Plus, it’s a kind of a personal diary–turpentine diary!
