Good day

Good day

I couldn’t wait to get started today. Problems are simply opportunities and everything is possible. You know what I’m talking about?

I put aside some large designs that have been absorbing me and started working on this painting, Self-portrait with Camera. I’m happy with some bits of it. The painting has a white ground, which is not my usual practice. I experiment with craft-related things a lot; maybe too much. It’s 40″ x 52.”

When people asked me what I called my work, I’d say “figurative.” The word “realism” often refers to aspects of painting that hold no interest for me. I have little interest, for instance, in reproducing textures found in the natural world, such as fur, or metal. For many, this is a critical aspect of historical realism.

Now I refer to my work as New Realism.
